Who we are

The owner of the building and the world-famous company "Georg Lang selig Erben" is Florian Lang. We, Andreas and Katharina Speer, have been renting out a holiday flat and two guest rooms there since mid-2021. Our father-in-law and father are pleased that guests are now coming and going in the rooms where there was already a guesthouse a hundred years ago. We are a young family rooted in our homeland. We are looking forward to your visit and would like to contribute to your well-being and enjoyment of the most beautiful days of the year.

The building

The company Georg Lang selig Erben was founded as early as 1775 and is thus one of the oldest in Oberammergau. Since then, the company has stood for the production and sale of high-quality Oberammergau woodcarvings.

In 1898, the building was raised and a tower was added, from where there is a magnificent view of Oberammergau and the mountains all around. In 1969, the façade was decorated by Gerhard Esther with Lüftl paintings, which are typical of Oberammergau. The current appearance of the building shows that the Lang family has always been concerned about preserving tradition and customs - this should remain so in the future.

The birthplace of Ludwig Thoma

Ludwig Thoma saw the light of day in our house. This can also be read on the façade of our house. Ludwig Thoma (1867-1921) was one of the most important Bavarian writers of his time. The "Lausbubengeschichten" or "Ein Münchner im Himmel" are probably works that are known to many, even beyond Bavaria.
